Business at OECD Consultation with OECD leadership and Ambassadors 19 February 2019 – Special Update

2019 Business at OECD Consultation with OECD Leadership and Ambassadors

Expanding Digital Opportunities: Agreeing Priority Actions was our theme of the 15 January Business at OECD 2019 Consultation with OECD Secretary General Angel Gurría, OECD Ambassadors, OECD Directors and our business leadership. The meeting helped to identify specific actions and solutions for a positive outcome in the digital transformation for our economies and societies. We also detailed how we see the OECD as the key “go-to” organization to address digital across disciplines. Keynote interventions focused on how business is adding value to society by leveraging digital technologies and ways to strike balance between privacy and use of data. We also implemented a new format with breakout sessions where business, Ambassadors and OECD leadership reviewed concrete examples of best practice which with wider dissemination would more effectively advance opportunities in this field. As part of our follow up we are now working on how we can build on the ideas that we jointly developed as a foundation for the Ministerial meeting planned for this May 22-23.

2019 Business at OECD Statement to Ambassadors and OECD Leadership

Our 2019 statement sets out business priorities for OECD action on digital focusing on companies, people, and markets.  It calls for a whole of government and multistakeholder approach to strengthen competitiveness, sustainable and inclusive growth for business large and small in the digital age. In particular, it points to the need to redouble efforts for multilateral agreement on taxation, regulatory cooperation, and a strong rules-based trading system.  Digital solutions for good governance and responsible business conduct, and accelerated implementation of the Paris Climate Agreement are also key priorities as are providing people the right tools, skills and policy frameworks to succeed in new and diverse forms of work.
